“To select a course is much more than choosing a career: it is to draft a life project.”
Traditionally, the Students Central Directory (DCE) is a student entity that represents all the students of a Higher Education Institution.
The DCE may maintain relation with other student representative entities, such as the Students’ National Union (UNE) or the Students’ State Union (UEE), in addition to other existing students’ entities in Brazil.
An Academic Center (CA) is a Student Organization that represents all the students of a course.
Among the basic functions of the CA, are, most importantly, to ensure the contact of the students of the courses with the entities of general representation (DCEs, Course Executives, and others), to discuss solutions to the problems of the course (such as lack of teachers, curricular changes, poorly planned subjects) and ensure that there will be students representation on collegiate entities and departments. To welcome new students, to organize gatherings and to inspect the University are also important duties of an Academic Center.
The Academic Athletics Associations are student entities supported by the Academic Centers, responsible for promoting and coordinating of the sports part of the University, organizing practices and internal and external championships, in many sports modalities. This entity is also responsible for the integration and interaction of students, through the organization of parties and in the manufacturing and sale of products of their courses (mugs, t-shirts, and others).
The Academic Leagues are student entities composed by a group of students that decides to immerse in a determined subject. The students define their route, and it is up to the faculty staff to guide them through the activities developed.
All leagues are structurally organized, composed by an administrative board of directors and effective members. The board of directors is usually composed by a president, vice-president and eventual directors that may become necessary for the correct and good functioning of the group, to mention: scientific, public relations, treasury, and secretary director, among other directors.
